Get ready to make your favorite coffee shop drink at home with this Easy Iced Mocha! This recipe combines strong coffee, milk, and chocolate syrup to create a delicious homemade coffee drink.
Do you regularly order an Iced Mocha at your favorite coffee shop? If so, save your money and make it right at home. I shared this recipe almost 10 years ago but it was time for an update. Making your iced mocha right at home is easy, but it’s also budget-friendly and tastes just as delicious if not more than your favorite Starbucks drink. Iced Mocha is simply strong coffee, milk, and chocolate sauce mixed to form a wonderful cold, caffeinated treat.
I have worked in a coffee shop for nearly 25 years in some capacity, I can easily tell you how to make every drink in the coffee shop, but I like to start with this easy Iced Mocha recipe because it’s a breeze to make at home.

What is an Iced Mocha?

Iced Mocha is chocolate sauce, brewed coffee or espresso, and milk. Then, you can always top it off with whipped cream. It is ready to drink in less than 5 minutes and it doesn’t cost $10 for a drink, it utilizes what is likely already in your kitchen and pantry. Iced Mocha can also be customized to be dairy-free if needed or low-dairy, it can be made decaf or regular and even sugar-free.
Ingredients for Iced Mocha:
- Strong Coffee or Espresso
- Milk
- Chocolate Sauce
- Ice
How do you make a Homemade Iced Mocha?

Using a mason jar or glass cup, if preferred you can chill the jar to make it extra cold, then add the chocolate sauce to the bottom of the cup, and top it with cold coffee. Next, pour in the milk and add the ice. If preferred, you can add ice first then top with milk. Once complete, gently stir the ingredients together.
If you are using espresso or hot coffee, follow the same steps but stir together the chocolate sauce and coffee.
The entire drink can be topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings or drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Quick Steps to Make an Iced Mocha – find the full recipe instructions in the recipe card below.
- Stir in 2 Tbsp of chocolate sauce into the 1 cup of hot coffee or espresso. If using cold coffee, add the chocolate sauce to the bottom of the cup and top with the coffee.
- Pour the coffee into the mason jar or cup.
- Add milk and ice.
- Stir this together and add whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.
Tips for Making this Easy Iced Mocha:
- While the coffee is hot, combine the coffee and chocolate sauce, then stir it together. This will melt the chocolate and make it blend much better when mixed. If you are using a chocolate powder, then you must mix that with hot coffee to dissolve it. We prefer chocolate sauce over chocolate powder or cocoa powder.
- If you want to skip hot coffee, you can easily use cold brew coffee for this recipe too. We keep a pot of cold brew in the fridge at all times for this very reason.
- Add the ice cubes last to your cup of ice so that it does not melt if you are using hot coffee. If you want to keep a strong coffee flavor, freezer brewed coffee in ice cube trays to make coffee ice cubes, which can be used for this coffee recipe.
- This can be made with white chocolate sauce too for a white chocolate mocha.
- If you want your mocha to taste just like the coffee shop, use espresso roast from an espresso machine. If you use espresso you only need 1-2 shots unless you want a lot of caffeine!
- Make it creamier by using heavy cream or half and half.
How do you make iced mocha dairy-free?

Iced Mocha can easily be made dairy-free with dairy alternatives or non-dairy milk such as almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or coconut milk along with dairy-free chocolate syrup.
If you want to go beyond dairy-free and need sugar-free too use a sugar-free chocolate syrup.
What is the difference between an Iced Latte and Iced Mocha?

The only difference between Iced Latte and Iced Mocha is the chocolate sauce or powder. The mocha is going to be chocolate, the latte will be without flavor unless you add one in. The full instructions will be in the recipe card below.
As you learn to make coffee drinks, you will notice that the base of each coffee drink is very similar; it’s the flavorings and add-ins that really change up the drink. If you would like to make an iced latte, follow this recipe for How to Make an Iced Latte.
If you like blended coffee using your blender try this Blended Frozen Caramel, or for chocolate flavor try Frozen Mocha.
This is not your Starbucks Copycat Recipe, it’s even better because it’s Homemade and you have full control over exactly what goes into your delicious homemade version of iced mocha! Enjoy this delicious iced coffee drink!
